What this AI visibility checker measures

AI visibility is how often AI answer engines name your brand or cite your site when people ask questions in your category. Our AI visibility checker reads logged answers from Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT, then reports each engine on its own: where you are mentioned, where you are cited as a source, and who shows up with you.

Mentions per engine

Counts stay separate: 521 AI Overviews responses and 31 ChatGPT responses for plausible.io.

Domains cited alongside you

The sites that share the answer with you. For plausible.io in AI Overviews, youtube.com leads.

Pages and prompts

Which of your URLs get cited, and for which questions. For plausible.io, three blog posts beat the homepage.

The answer text

The excerpt each engine wrote, quoted exactly, so you see how it frames you.

How to check your AI visibility in 3 steps

Enter a domain, let the checker read the logged AI answers that include it, then read the report one engine at a time. It works for competitors too.

Enter a domain

Type the website you want to check. We match citations on the domain and mentions on the brand.

We read logged answers

The checker pulls answers that AI Overviews and ChatGPT already gave to real prompts. No model is asked to guess.

Read the report

Start with mentions per engine, then the prompts, then the domains cited next to you.

Google says no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems. So we only report what logged answers show.

Your AI visibility score, explained

An AI visibility score squeezes mentions, citations and placement into one number. We do not put one on the sample report, because a single number hides which engine is the problem.

Many free checkers score readiness instead. That says whether engines could use your site, not whether they do.

What is a good AI visibility score?

There is no shared benchmark across tools, so compare yourself with the domains cited on the same prompts. Among the 521 AI Overviews responses that include plausible.io, youtube.com appears in 284 and semrush.com in 203.

If we add a score later, we will print the formula next to it.

What's in your AI visibility report

Each report has seven parts, filled with real plausible.io data in our sample. It is a free AI visibility report you can open now.

  • Mentions per engine, never blended into one total
  • Prompts that cite you, with the answer text verbatim
  • Domains cited alongside you, per engine
  • Your most-cited pages
  • Mentions vs citations, split from the same data
  • Readiness signals, kept apart from visibility
  • What to do next: three steps taken from your rows

AI search visibility by engine

Each engine picks sources its own way, so an AI search visibility checker has to report them one by one. Overlap with Google rankings is low: Ahrefs found that 12% of URLs cited by AI assistants rank in Google's top 10 for the same prompt.

Mentions, citations and readiness

A mention is your brand named in the answer text. A citation is your URL listed as a source. Readiness is whether AI crawlers can reach and parse your site. Only the first two are visibility.

So if you are asking "am I on AI?", mentions and citations answer it. Readiness tells you whether you could be.

In the plausible.io sample

ChatGPT gave 31 responses that include plausible.io; 16 list it as a source. Citations matter because summaries link out widely: Pew found 88% of Google AI summaries cited three or more sources.

On readiness, plausible.io allows every AI crawler and has no llms.txt. Neither shows whether it gets named, and Google Search ignores llms.txt.

Checker vs tracker vs audit

A checker gives you one dated snapshot of the answers. A tracker repeats that snapshot on a schedule. An audit looks at your own site instead of the answers.

AI visibility checker

It runs once and records the date. Use it for a first look, a competitor check, or a before and after.

AI visibility tracker

It reruns the same prompts on a schedule. AI Overviews change every 2.15 days on average, and consecutive versions share 54.5% of cited URLs, so trends need repeated runs.

AI visibility audit

Checks crawler access, schema and page structure. It can explain why answers might skip you, not show that they do.

Low score? What to fix next

Start from the rows in your report, not a generic checklist. Three patterns cover most low results.

Others own the answer

If the domains cited alongside you win prompts you miss, study the pages they get cited for. Our guide to AI search optimization covers strategy across engines.

Wrong pages get cited

If blog posts get cited but product pages do not, write answer-first pages for buyer questions. The LLM SEO guide shows how to write pages that models can quote.

Your name reads as a word

If an engine reads your brand as a common word, as AI Overviews does with "plausible", use the full brand name in titles and in Organization schema.

AI visibility checker FAQ

Is the AI visibility checker free?

No account is needed to run a check or to open the plausible.io sample report. To protect the service, each visitor can start 5 live checks every 10 minutes. The report shows the top three rows of each list, and the full lists are part of a free trial.

How do I check if ChatGPT mentions my brand?

Ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask, with search on, and note whether it names you and whether your site appears in the sources. A checker does this across many logged prompts at once.

What is a good AI visibility score?

There is no shared benchmark, because tools score different things. Compare your mentions and citations with the domains cited on the same prompts, engine by engine. We do not show a 0 to 100 score on the sample report.

What is the difference between an AI mention and an AI citation?

A mention is your brand named in the answer text. A citation is a link to your site in the answer's sources. You can get one without the other, so our report counts them separately.

Which AI engines does the checker cover?

A live check reports every engine that has logged mentions of the domain: Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot. An engine with no logged mentions shows as no mentions found instead of a number. The plausible.io sample covers Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT only.

Is there an AI visibility checker Chrome extension?

No. The checker runs on this page in any browser, so there is nothing to install.

Why isn't my website showing up in ChatGPT answers?

Ranking in Google is not enough: Ahrefs found that only 8.0% of URLs ChatGPT cited rank in Google's top 10 for the same prompt. Common causes are blocked AI crawlers, a brand name that reads as a common word, and few third-party pages that mention you.

Can I check a competitor's AI visibility?

Yes. The checker takes any domain, not only your own. Every report also lists the domains cited alongside it, which shows who competes with you inside the answers.
